BAPTISMS
Holy Baptism is the initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the Church. In the Episcopal Church, Baptism is the entry rite into the Christian life (although you don’t have to be baptized to join our community). Each candidate for Holy Baptism is sponsored by one or more baptized persons. The sacrament usually takes place during the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Worship Service.
HOLY EUCHARIST
The sacrament of Holy Eucharist goes by several names: Holy Communion, the Eucharist (which literally means “thanksgiving”), the Lord’s Supper, the Mass. But whatever its formal name, this is the family meal for Christians and a foretaste of the heavenly banquet. This celebration, instituted by Jesus at the Last Supper, is an outward and physical expression of an inward and spiritual grace.
CONFIRMATION
Confirmation is the sacramental rite in which an individual expresses a mature commitment to Christ. Confirmation or Reception is available for teens and adults who want to make a formal commitment to God in the Episcopal Church.
MARRIAGE
Marriage is a sacramental rite in which a covenant relationship between two persons is established and blessed in the presence of God and the Church. The Episcopal church has expanded the use of the service to be appropriate for the many different ways the people of God understand and express the love and commitment they share. In 2015, the Episcopal Church officially sanctioned same-sex marriage.
FUNERALS
This liturgy is characterized by joy, in the certainty that “neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
